The Old Mill Boathouse at Broxbourne
The Old Mill Boathouse at Broxbourne was established in 1928 by Mr. Harry Sykes, a boat builder from Clapham and Professional Coach to North London Rowing Clubs.
Rowing, sailing and motor boats were built together with a fleet of hire craft. A waterman of great character, Harry Sykes was a talented performer at regattas with his exhbitions of rowing and sculling – including rowing underwater! He also coached the Broxbourne Rowing Club crews. On his retirement the establishment was taken over by the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, and is now known as the Lee Valley Boat Centre.
