From Flight to Freedom
Lowewood Museum will be showing an exhibition ‘From Flight to Freedom’ – an exhibition to celebrate the journey of the Ukrainian community to Broxbourne, from Saturday 4 August 2007 to 29 September 2007.
The Mayor of Broxbourne Councillor Charles Tranham will officially open the exhibition at 3pm on Saturday 4 August. The official opening will include a traditional dance display and sampling of Ukrainian dishes.
The exhibition traces the history and journey of Ukrainian nationals as they left their homeland to establish new roots in the Lea Valley. The story began 60 years ago, when they left their homes and travelled to this country.
This exhibition includes photographs, artefacts, traditional costumes and crafts. During the exhibition period, workshops will take place to demonstrate the ancient art of Ukrainian Easter Egg decoration and live traditional music.
Lowewood Museum is open from Wednesday to Saturday 10am to 4pm and admission is free. For more information, residents can contact the museum on 01992 445596.
