The White Swan, 95 High Street, Hoddesdon, EN11 8TN
The Swan in 1595. The main parts of the building are timber-framed dating from the 16th century though much restored and altered. In the early eighteenth century the house was owned by Dr. William Dean, rector of Offord Cherry, Hunts. The village smithy formely adjoined the inn and there was a cattle pound and slaughter house in the yard. A gallows sign spanned the road until the 1870s. Owned by the Hoddesdon brewers Christie and Cathrow in the early nineteenth century.
