Individual category winners have been announced in the annual Broxbourne in Bloom competition. The competition invited residents, businesses and community groups within Broxbourne to enter their gardens for a chance to win up to £100 worth of gardening vouchers, donated by In-Ex Garden Centre in Goffs Oak.
Mrs J Wells, from Goffs Oak was once again awarded first place in the ‘Best Large Private Garden’ category, with second place going to Mr and Mrs Wooding from Hoddesdon. Mrs Wells also won the Roy Whiddon Memorial Trophy for the ‘Best Garden for All Seasons’.
First place in the ‘Best Small Private Garden’ category went to Ms P Goodchild of Cheshunt, second place went to Mr and Mrs Johnson from Waltham Cross, and third place went to Mrs J Lammas, from Hoddesdon.
The Fred Hill Memorial Trophy for Best New Entry was won by Lord Street Retirement Housing Scheme in Hoddesdon, who also took 3rd place for Best Communal Garden.
In the commercial competition, The Queens Head, in High Road, Wormley was awarded ‘Best Public House’, with The White Swan in Hoddesdon taking second, and the Roman Urn in Cheshunt came third. Marconato Restaurant in Hoddesdon achieved first place in the ‘Best Business Frontage’ category, with second place going to Flamstead End Service Station. In the communal gardens competition, first place for ‘Best Communal Garden’ went to Rose Court in Cheshunt. ‘Best Communal Container’ went to Grove House, Cheshunt. The Best Private Container garden award went to Mr M Martin of Hoddesdon.
All entrants have been invited to a prize giving and presentation evening at Broxbourne Civic Hall on Wednesday 23 September. The overall show winner will also be announced and prizes will be presented by the Mayor of Broxbourne, Councillor Mrs Lyn White, and In-Ex Garden Centre of Goffs Oak.
The schools’ competition result will be announced at a special presentation in September and representatives from schools that have entered this year have been invited to a tea party with the Mayor, Cllr. Mrs Lyn White.
Broxbourne in Bloom is also the Borough’s competition entry into ‘Anglia in Bloom’, the regional competition, and ‘Britain in Bloom’, the national competition supported by the Royal Horticultural Society. The results of Anglia in Bloom will be announced in September 2009.
