Lee Valley Leisure Pool
THE popular Lee Valley Leisure Pool in Broxbourne will be demolished after 30 years as a regional attraction.
Pool bosses have announced the facility will shut on 28 September 2008.
The cost of improvements needed to bring the centre up to modern standards was the reason given for the closure by its owners, the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority.
Park chiefs now hope to transform the area into a “leisure destination” and are working with Broxbourne Council to draw up a development brief laying out the future of the New Nazeing Road site.
Customers of the pool, which with its wave machine and water canons is unique in the area, have been directed to use other facilities in Hoddesdon and Cheshunt.
The Lee Valley Leisure Pool was first opened in 1978 and had a £4.5m refurbishment in 1998, reopening in 1999. Since this time it has been run on the Authority’s behalf by Leisure Connection Ltd.
Please note that the Broxbourne Lea Valley Leisure Pool has now been demolished.
I am terribly sad about this. I’m 13 and me and my dad have been coming here for years! It had loads of memories in it and was the best swimming pool in the world!
