Share my history

Have you been researching your family’s past or the history of your house?
Did your ancestors have an interesting past?
Do you have an interesting story to tell?

Lowewood Museum is currently looking for interesting stories associated with the borough for our forthcoming media channel, which launches later this year. The Borough of Broxbourne covers Rye Park, Hoddesdon, Broxbourne, Wormley, Turnford, Cheshunt, Waltham Cross, Goffs Oak and Flamstead End.

Did you appear in any of the Hoddesdon Newsreels?
Did you work at the old Rye House Power Station?
Did your parents have a well-known family business?
Did you work for Rochfords, Pollards or Stevens or any of the nurseries within the Lea Valley?

We would also like to hear from anyone who went to Cheshunt Grammar School -  formely in Windmill Lane or Hazlewood School, Burford Street, Hoddesdon during the 50s and 60s.

Do you have any old cine film or photographs that tell a story about your family’s past?

Please contact John Harris by email  or  the curator at the museum.

Do you have a photo that tells a story about your family’s past? Upload it to our website using the form below (or email yourhistory@lowewood.com)  and we will feature your images in our new gallery section, which we will be launching soon. Your photos must have a link with the area.

My mother and her sister at New Farm, Ware Road, Hoddesdon

This picture of my mother, Dorothy Reed (left) and her sister Eileen, was taken in 1910/11. They were on holiday in Dorset and brought back this sheep as a pet, which they kept on my grandparents farm.

My grandparents Esther Margret and George Lewis Reed, lived at New Farm in Ware Road, Hoddesdon, where my mum and her sister worked. My mother married Griffiths Giddings, the eldest son of Charles Giddings, a well known sculptor.
